The base platform: Core™

Understand and operate any database from its metadata
  • Reverse-engineer any supported database into a live model: every table, key and relationship, diagrammed in seconds.
  • Explore and edit metadata and physical data together: diagrams, a filterable data dictionary with your own attributes, and related records at any depth with foreign-key lookups.
  • Provision non-production databases as part of the platform: generate constraint-valid synthetic data, and save, compare, and restore datasets and snapshots from plain SQL.
  • Automate with scripting, and with AI assistance: Xcase Assist answers from the documentation, Xcase Script turns plain language into reviewable scripts.

Understand, automate and provision any database from its metadata.

Reverse engineering of existing databases

Connect Xcase to a supported database and it reads the whole schema - tables, columns, keys, indexes, views, triggers, procedures - into a live model, and draws the diagram. Every table, every key, every relationship, modeled in seconds: a complete, navigable picture of a database you may have inherited only yesterday.

  • Nothing is drawn by hand: the model comes from the database itself.
  • Works at real scale - hundreds of tables, views and procedures.
  • The model is the foundation every other Xcase capability builds on.

Entity-relationship diagrams, embedded diagrams and clustering

  • Create clear and interactive Entity Relationship Diagrams to document and manage complex data models. Use multiple, nested diagrams to make it easier to navigate your database structure and focus on specific areas and domains.

  • Customize what’s displayed—keys only, all fields, descriptions, and indexes—and manage the display of attributes like physical types and ancestors.

  • Use dedicated windows to zoom in on details or see the entire diagram.

Data dictionary with user-defined attributes and CSV export

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of your metadata through customizable object browsers. Sort, filter, and search metadata both at the individual object level and within the global dictionary.

  • Easily export your results: create structured PDF reports, extract metadata into CSV files, and share Enhanced Meta File diagrams.

Physical data browsing and editing with foreign-key lookups

  • Navigate through relational physical data directly—browse tables, parent-child links, in dedicated visual tabs.

  • Use live data exploration tools to simulate real-world scenarios. Test database rules and program logic with actual relational data.

  • Ensure data integrity during testing: Edit data precisely by using automatic lookups for foreign keys and dropdowns for enumerated types.

Visual view building with automatic join-path discovery

  • Xcase™ utilizes the relationships defined in your model to enable you to create Views or Queries that assemble data from different related tables.

  • When multiple paths are available, Xcase™ will visually enable you to choose the relevant relationships.

  • The result is SQL code containing all the necessary Joins, which is automatically maintained when names or relationships are modified.

Synthetic test data generation

  • Fresh data extracted from Production is vital for quality testing and development, but it might not always be enough.

  • New tables or columns can exist in non-production databases and need relevant data.

  • Xcase™ lets you set precise rules for automatically generating such data.

Datasets and snapshots: save, compare, restore from plain SQL

  • Xcase™ creates multiple isolated, custom non-production databases.

  • Each environment serves specific stakeholder needs without affecting others.

  • Supports debugging, development, and testing with autonomous, relevant datasets.

Compare and restore data states

  • Datasets are collections of definitions that reference dynamic data. A Snapshot is a static copy of the data at a specific moment.

  • You can compare a Dataset or a Snapshot to the data your model references. This comparison generates a detailed report of the differences.

  • After performing a test that alters the original data, you can restore the data to test again.

Synchronize a database from received model changes

When a new version of the model reaches you - published by your team or received as a file - Xcase compares it to your database, shows exactly what changed, and generates the DDL that brings the database up to date. Review the script, then apply it.

  • A change list before any action: nothing is applied blind.
  • The generated DDL is plain source - inspect it, keep it, rerun it.

Xcase scripting for reports, exports and automation

  • A built-in scripting language lets you generate any database-related code. You can access all metadata in your model, including user-defined attributes, or retrieve information from the database catalog using dedicated object-oriented functions. Multiple templates are available, and you can customize them or create your own.

  • This transforms Xcase™ into a distinctive and potent database programming environment with vast capabilities. Generate DDL and DML code or even programmatically create custom diagrams.

Xcase Assist and Xcase Script - AI assistance in Core

Two AI capabilities ship inside Core. Xcase Assist answers your questions from the Xcase documentation, right where you work. Xcase Script goes further: ask for the script in your natural language, and it writes the Xcase script - ready to read, adjust and run.

  • A typed sentence in your own words becomes a working script.
  • Always reviewable: you read every script before it runs.
